My husband and I loved doing this course with Debs! The classes helped us feel connected with our baby and I always felt my most relaxed while doing them. The techniques not only helped me with labour, but with life post-partu
m. Debs is a wonderful teacher – down to earth, smiley and so reassuring . As well as providing tools to use during labour, the course is also incredibly informativ e and helped us get our heads around it (which made it all far less daunting!) We approached the day with excitement , rather than fear. Thank you so much Debs! Xxx

The one thing I was always sure of was that I wanted a positive and empowering birth experience and Deborah has taught us how! Can’t wait until I can use the techniques on the day but in the meantime we’re having fun practising…so calm and relaxed! There is so much science and basic logic behind the techniques and it’s natural – not at all airy fairy like you might think! Would recommend to anyone!

We did the course with 2 other couples so a nice small group of us. It was so reassuring as I had a negative birth experience the first time. Deborah is lovely and very welcoming. The sessions were great and we have lots to practise with the accompanying book and mp3s to listen to. I would highly recommend this course!

I’d had a bad childbirth experience the first time around, and so when I became pregnant a second time, Debs suggested I take a hypnobirthing course. I live in California, and I knew that Debs was the only instructor I wanted, so she very kindly conducted my course over Skype! I had all of the traditional information from my birthing classes with my first pregnancy, but was looking for something a bit more practical. I loved the way Debs explained everything to me in a manner that was so relatable, and not in a ‘hippy’ sort of way that you might expect from a hypnobirthing course. She also gave so many practical tools that I am looking forward to using during my labour. The breathing and relaxation techniques are so simple, yet I know they will be so much more helpful than anything I learned in the NHS hospital classes last time. Taking Debs’ classes has made me so much more confident in my labour and child birth this time around, and I go into the experience not scared, but prepared. I feel like I can make it through the surges with confidence, and the tools she has given me will really help me focus and stay in control. I have been practicing alot of the breathing right before going to sleep, and it helps me focus and relax so I drift off more quickly! I can tell that these techniques will also be very helpful during the somewhat stressful times of having a newborn! I can see myself using them to calm down during sleepness nights and new mum anxiety. Thank you so much, Debs! I thoroughly recommend this course.

Me and my partner have just finished the 4 week hypnobirthing course with Deborah. I had heard lots of positive feedback about the course and it was a no brainer to get booked on.
We have completely valued the information and techniques given each week and enjoyed the informal and small class size. Our baby is due in 6 weeks and I can honestly say we both feel more prepared, calm and positive about the birth process. I feel completely confident that my partner knows what I want and has the tools to support me and that I can use the techniques to remain as calm as possible no matter what journey our labour takes. The course content and mp3’s have given me more time to relax and learn new skills to remain calm. Deborah was a great teacher who kept the classes informal, fun and provided a safe place to ask questions and explore feelings and pre conceived thoughts on labour. Thanks so much Deborah, we are really looking forward to sharing our birth story with you- whatever that may be. X

I can’t say enough good things about Deborah and the Wise Hippo Course that my partner and I have just completed. I knew I wasn’t looking forward to the usual NCT classes and almost everything I had heard from family, friends and colleagues about labour and birth was completely freaking me out. I sort of just shut it all out and told myself I had plenty of time to panic about birth and I’d deal with it later. Then a friend recommended the Wise Hippo programe and after a little research I came across Riverside Hypnobirthing. As soon as I’d spoken to Deborah on the phone I felt a wave of calm about the whole thing and decided there and then to go for it. Deborah is kind, funny, informative and incredibly positive and the first class left me excited and looking forward to our next few Saturday mornings with our group. My partner and I have learned tools, not only to help us with the birth of our baby, but also to help us cope with stress on a day to day basis. It was a chance for us to bond and really take the time to concentrate on something other than the chaos of everyday life. Don’t be put off by the “Hypno” bit, these classes are informative and logical. I am now genuinely excited about the birth of my baby and feel empowered to make the decisions that are right for me. Thank you Deborah, we miss our Saturday morning classes but have never been more excited and prepared for the big day!

Can’t recommend Debs and the wise hippo course enough. Having been induced with my first baby I was keen to look into to hypnobirthing. We then serendipitously bumped into Debs at the RBH, an old art college friend and pretty much signed up there and then! My husband was cynical at first but after the first session with Debs he quickly saw how useful all the techniques would be and it wasn’t Paul McKenna-ish at all! We loved working with Debs she explained everything so clearly with warmth and humour. We left every session feeling so relaxed and excited for the birth. Having a very opinionated family with a medical back ground who focused on negative possibilities the course really helped to block out those voices. We feel so well prepared which ever path our birth takes. Thank you Debs ! X

The birth was the greatest experience of my life and made so much easier and better just by doing your classes, I honestly can’t stress enough to all my friends and family how much of a difference that made to us. I can’t actually put it all into words at the moment but it just went so well. all down to the breathing techniques no pain relief no noise just perfect!! I have already recommended friends to you – I think I could be a course salesman! thanks again for everything x Antony

Signing up for the Wise Hippo hypnobirthing course with Deborah was THE best decision! I always knew that giving birth was something completely natural and had a lot to do with mindset and knowledge, yet was influenced by the media’s portrayal and stories you hear… As a research psychologist, I found the content was not only intuitive but embedded in sound science. I had arrived not necessarily being anxious and scared of birth, but apprehensive and worried- I left feeling excited yet calm, trusting that I have a toolkit I can work with whatever the situation. Deborah has made the course so wonderful, in particular through her friendly and kind nature as well as the passion that transpired through each module. It was important to me not to be lectured on what I ‘should’ be doing or feeling or thinking, as that would only build up pressure even more. Deborah, through her accepting personality, offered knowledge and tools, where I could pick and mix as I felt comfortable. This really increased my confidence to trust myself in what I feel is right in the lead up to birth and on the day. Importantly, it was also a course that was helpful for my husband- not only did he really enjoy it, he feels empowered to help me prepare and make it a wonderful experience on the day. This is one of the most important points for me, as I really want him to be part of the whole journey and for him to know that he is an integral part of making it a fulfilling birth experience. Not only am I looking forward to the actual experience now, I am also looking forward to touching base during Deborah’s coffee mornings from January!!

Debs was recommended to me by a friend who attended her classes last year and found it really helpful. My husband and I decided to attended her 4 week course, starting when I was 23 weeks. We found the classes to be really informative, and relaxing. For my husband it was really useful to have an opportunity to ask lots of questions and learn more about the ‘mysteries’ of pregnancy and childbirth, I guess as guys don’t have the same access to info through friends etc as women do! We both feel a lot more confident about the birth now, my husband feels like he is far more part of the team rather than feeling like a helpless passenger, and is armed with a lot more knowledge to help me through the experience, and we have both discovered things to think about for our birth plan which we never even knew about (managed placenta? Vitamin K?), which we can now research and feel really prepared. The hypno tracks are so relaxing and are amazing for pregnancy insomnia, and I feel totally ready to give birth. People can throw all the birth horror stories they like at me now, I can brush them all off and I know that my husband, baby and I will be fine 🙂
I would recommend Riverside to any expectant parents!

My fiancé and I have just completed Hypnobirthing and I can honestly say it was the best antenatal class we could have chosen! Fantastic 4 weeks and have learnt so much! Now just to wait for the little man to arrive! X

We searched for local group sessions and Deborah at Riverside Hypnobirthing was one of the first web sites we looked at. Immediately we loved the web site, reading the variety of birth stories from Mums and Dads Deborah had taught. We both warmed to Deborah watching the video of her and her husband describing their experience of hypnobirthing with their first born, Immy. Above all we loved the fact that Deborah is a mum and her passion and enthusiasm shone through. We were so disappointed when we contacted Deborah to be told that all her group sessions were fully booked. It also unfolded that Deborah was expecting bubba number two so she would be on maternity leave herself in early September. I must admit a bit of panic set in at this point. Had we just left this all a bit too late. However, Deborah offered us some one to one sessions. She very kindly squeezed us in around her other group and private sessions and we started our hypnobirthing journey with Deborah at the beginning of August at 30 weeks pregnant. We have just finished the last session this week and I cannot put into words what Deborah and the WiseHippo programme has already done for Jon and I. It may sound a bit dramatic and like a cliche but in just over 3 weeks we feel this experience has changed our lives. Over the course we have been taught some incredible techniques that we will not only use for the forthcoming weeks of pregnancy and throughout the birth of our little girl but we will use in our everyday lives at home as new parents and at work. Already, we have put some of these techniques into practice at difficult hospital appointments. We have experienced in real life situations how hypnobirthing has such a positive impact. We are thoroughly enjoying practising all the techniques, frequently taking an early night away from the chores, the tv and the tablets to spend time just the two of us. We feel closer than ever. We are both so excited about our forthcoming birth. Jon knows how critical his role is in being my birthing partner and I have ultimate confidence that he will coach me through the more challenging parts as we face them. We now both feel fully prepared and incredibly excited about meeting our little baby girl. Deborah is incredibly warm and caring. She made us feel at ease and relaxed within minutes of the first class. By the end of the sessions we felt like we had known her for years. Deborah has been working so hard with the local mid wives and Childrens Centre to promote the benefits of hypnobirthing. Her passion and enthusiasm is infectious. If you are thinking about hypnobirthing with Deborah as either a first time, second time or even third time mum I would recommend it 100 times over, no question. You will never look back and wonder if it was really worth it. We can’t thank you enough Deborah. We look forward to hearing your news and your birth story soon! And I guess our babes will meet in January at the next coffee morning!

Thanks very much Deborah at Riverside Hypnobirthing for the fun classes, great advice and support. Deborah is a wonderful mentor – empathetic, motivational and with a great sense of humour. She made everyone in our class feel comfortable. The course gave us some great techniques for relaxation, but also for making decisions and being assertive. Deborah is also very knowledgeable about what is going on in the local area and is doing great work with midwives. The inspiring materials and imagery exercises really do help to dispel more negative impressions of labour and birth. Don’t hesitate to join the class – you will come away more knowledgeable, more empowered, and excited! Good luck with baby number 2 Deborah!

I had heard about hypnobirthing and thankfully found Deborah on a google search. My husband and I attended an intro class to make sure it was something that resonated with us and that we wanted to commit to it both time wise and financially. Within minutes of the intro class we realised that Deborah was teaching us to get back to logical natural basics. Her explanations were beautiful and obvious. We went to do the full 4-week course during which time we got so comfortable with the Wise Hippo hypnobirthing techniques and relaxations. So many of our questions were answered and we had a brilliant time and lots of laughter with the other 3 couples that were in the class. It was almost quiet sad when the classes were finished. Deborah has maintained contact has regular coffee sessions and is available and in touch if questions arise. Deborah has a wonderful, gentle approach that appeals to everyone, she is knowledgable and someone you trust. She is an excellent teacher who got our attention from the first minute. She completely changed both my and my husband’s view and approach to birth. She installs confidence in you again! Thank you Deborah for waking us up and getting us ready for what is going to be the most beautiful life changing moment.

I think I am like most first time mums, the thought of birth literally terrified me.All I can say is thank gosh for Deborah!! Not only is she one of the nicest people I have ever met, the fear of giving birth is no more. I feel so happy, relaxed and ready for the birth of my baby, even excited. I never thought I would feel like this. For anyone having a baby I would recommend Deborah over and over again. I can’t thank Deborah enough.
Absolutely fantastic course. I would highly recommend it to any woman/couple wanting to take charge of their birth, and feel positive and calm. Deborah made me and my birth partner (my mum) feel very welcome, and was always happy to help. I loved the environment, other couples, and those lovely snacks 🙂

My husband and I are expecting our second child in around 6 weeks time and have just completed our Wise Hippo course with Deborah. We are so glad we decided to give hypnobirthing a try! Although my first labour and birth was natural and fairly straightforward, I was a little taken aback by the level of mental concentration and strength it required, and felt a bit like a pupil who just did everything the midwife suggested without really thinking about what I wanted. I feel so much more empowered and confident about giving birth second time around after our sessions with Deborah. She has really made us feel that we can have control over the experience, and has given us the confidence to plan a home birth (which I don’t think my husband would have felt comfortable with if we hadn’t done the course).
We’re now enjoying practicing the relaxation techniques we have learnt, listening to the Mp3 tracks and spending time together focussing on our baby (sometimes difficult to do when you have a toddler!). Having attended an NCT course during my first pregnancy, I can fully recommend Deborah’s Wise Hippo course as a much more positive, empowering and informative course. It covers everything you need to know, and more, and leaves you feeling excited by the prospect of birth (rather than scared and overwhelmed, as the NCT course left us feeling). We’re so grateful to Deborah for her warm, friendly support and for helping us to believe that birth can be a wonderful experience! xxx

Having first discovered Hypnobirthing after reading a post from a mummy blogger who raved about it, we discovered Deborah after doing research for local practitioners. We feel so lucky that we ended up in such safe hands! Having watched one too many dramas on TV, we had very definite ideas about what labour would be like. I’d already put in a request to my midwife for “all the drugs”. Deborah has now left us feeling empowered and excited for the birth, intending to use natural methods when it comes to dealing with surges. If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m high risk, I’d be having the baby at home for sure as I feel like we have all of the tools we need to manage and more importantly enjoy the process ourselves.
Deborah made everything easily understandable and gave reasoning behind everything which even the biggest of sceptics couldn’t argue with. Now attending an NCT course, we can honestly say that we have no need for it, Deborah covered everything that we needed and in a much more positive manner. We’ve left feeling excited for the big day and for that we will be forever grateful xx

Deborah was recommended to me and my husband by a friend who was just starting the course herself. We went to a taster session and soon realised that we really needed some help to prepare ourselves for our child’s birth and Deborah was the perfect lady to do that – she was so friendly, positive and reassuring. Despite having only just met her, I found myself telling her very personal things and knew that she could help me overcome my fear of birth. We signed up for the full course & can honestly say it’s the best thing we could have done. We learnt so much about giving birth that nobody ever explains to you & it helped to bring me and my husband even closer together; when it came to the labour he knew exactly what to do to help me through it & keep me calm. I couldn’t have asked for more & none of that would have been possible without Deborah’s excellent teaching and support. I would highly recommend her courses to ANYONE who is preparing for birth.

All of this course has been invaluable. I particularly loved the breathing and distraction techniques and meeting new people. I feel more confident and informed about birth. I really enjoyed each week, and the more practical sessions were my favourite – I loved learning the soothing strokes and relaxing place technique. Thank you Deborah X 🙂

Expecting my first baby next month, and was freaking out big time. I am now feeling much more confident and feel that giving birth is a natural thing that I can cope with rather than the painful, scary experience I imagined it to be. Deborah was very knowledgeable, listened to our fears, and was a pleasure to get to know. Would recommend this to anyone.

We’re expecting our first baby and didn’t know exactly what to expect (sorry for the pun!), but we knew for sure we didn’t want to be dragged into the usual scary picture pregnancy and birth are normally depicted. Also, I’ve always been against the idea of epidural but, no matter what, everyone I’ve spoken to about this, just shook their heads as this was an impossible idea. “When the time comes, you’ll surrender to drugs as everyone else”. I couldn’t accept that and I’m more than happy we attended Deborah’s classes. Deborah’s knowledgeable and confident about natural birth, she encourages alternative ways to relieve discomfort during labour, she taught us very powerful tools to keep calm and relax even when you’re not really feeling you can. Also, she gave me enough confidence to go for home birth, which was something I had immediately dismissed as scary nonsense right at the beginning of my pregnancy! Of course, I still have six weeks to go and I can’t really talk about how I’ve actually coped with my labour using the respiration techniques Deborah taught me, but I’ve been practising them whenever I’ve got a cramp (almost every night!) or with Braxton-Hicks and I find that I can immediately go back to what I was doing and forget about the pain straight away. No need to say I’m now looking forward the Big Day. Thanks Deborah for your lovely support and for the cups of peppermint tea.

Having recently completed our hypnobirth
ing course with Deborah I have to say I’m a delighted and very satisfied client. We are the a-typical new parents-to -be, without any real idea about what we are doing or what to expect. Deborah’s calm, thoughtful and enjoyable classes helped us not only formulate great ideas for our birth experience but also helped ease concerns and fears that we had. My other half went into the sessions with a “just get it over with” attitude to birth and alot of worries. We’re now happily imagining the birth of our baby and feel empowered to make the right decisions for us and our baby. I would thoroughly recommend Deborah to any expectant parent, we’ve made a real friend here!

My husband and I decided to attend hypnobirthing with Deborah because I have always been really scared of childbirth. Having completed the course, I now feel so much more confident and am actually looking forward to giving birth! This is due to the excellent Wise Hippo programme, but also to Deborah’s continuing advice and support. We would highly recommend!
Andrew Coleman, Caversham
My partner and I have recently finished a Wise Hippo course with Deborah and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From a soon to be first time father’s perspective it has taken me from being worried and nervous about the birth to confident and excited.
Before we went on the course I fully expected to be a third wheel on the big day; getting under the midwife’s toes, staring blankly as they talk about epidurals and episiotomies, annoying my partner with my uselessness and by using the only two phrases I’ve been conditioned to understand that may work in that situation – ‘Breathe, Breathe’ and ‘push baby, push!’. Now, it is a completely different story. With Deborah’s help and guidance, I not only now have the confidence to control the environment, allowing my partner to concentrate on the most important job of the day, but also the tools to help her through this process, ultimately making it a team effort, as it should be.
Deborah has taught us that giving birth doesn’t have to be a stressful, scary and quickly to be forgotten experience but instead a relaxed, exciting and with a memory to be cherished forever.
My partner and I cannot wait for the big day now and we wouldn’t be in that position if it wasn’t for this course and, more importantly, Deborah. A friendly, warm and brilliant teacher – we couldn’t have wished for anyone better to guide us.
As Deborah says wisely in her course ‘if you ever find yourself worried about an impending situation, imagine that you have already gone through it and that it all went brilliantly’. Well, we actually have already gone through this course and it most definitely went brilliantly. Thank you Deborah. From Andrew and Frances.
My husband and I signed up for Deborah’s Wise Hippo course after a friend of ours raved about attending a Wise Hippo course and the relaxed and empowering labour she had. She now has a super chilled out baby, which I’m sure is no coincidence.
Deborah’s course was fantastic. The sessions were really informative and Debs taught them in a really easy to understand and down to earth way. Debs went further than just teaching the course – she was always happy to answer our questions, investigate what others in the field thought about things and has continued to send us loads of helpful tips and advice. The other couples on our course were lovely, which made our group sessions really fun.
Before the course we were a little skeptical about whether Hypnobirthing was for us but now we are complete converts. We are definitely both feeling so much more confident and excited about birth now.
Katy Whittle, Reading
I was feeling nervous about having my 2nd baby as my first experience of birth was a bit scary and not very natural! Deborah is a great teacher and put us at ease straight away. She is a very positive person and even though my husband and I are sceptical people, the Hypnobirthing techniques that we have learnt make a lot of sense. I now feel really relaxed and excited about having my baby! I would highly recommend this course with Deborah to anyone having a baby for the 1st or 21st time!
As soon as I read a friend’s story of her experience completing the Wise Hippo programme via Deborah’s weekend classes, I knew that it was something I wanted to do too. Actually, not only wanted to do, but NEEDED to do. Quite an anxious person by nature, and conditioned by watching too many episodes of One Born Every Minute, I feared giving birth but having read about hypnobirthing and having recently gotten really into mindfulness and basic meditation in general, I knew with the right tools it would be possible to reduce this fear. I didn’t know it would be possible turn the situation around to such an extent that I’d be really excited about my baby’s birth and feel so empowered about this upcoming day!
Deborah was wonderful from our first contact by email and then phone, explaining the course and making my partner and I feel welcome and special.
The classes themselves were so enjoyable, I didn’t want the hypnosis sessions to ever end, and the time flew by. We learnt so much: about the biology behind the techniques, really simple ways to relax, useful tools for everyday life, watched plenty of calm pain-relief-free birth videos, and how Dads can be extremely involved and important during pregnancy and during labour.
The sessions had just the right balance of gentle teaching, giving practical techniques a go (plenty of time to practice as homework in between each class), and breaks to chat about what we’d learnt over some of Deborah’s yummy homemade snacks!
Deborah has been so helpful since our sessions finished too, following up with advice on other aspects of pregnancy and suggesting local groups that may be of interest.
I’d recommend the course (and Deborah in particular) to anyone – if you have any negative thoughts towards birth or even if you already know you’ll be fine as the hypnosis is a real treat and gives you a chance to properly focus on your unborn baby and help Dad to bond with it too. I wish I could do the classes all over again!

Fantastic morning with Debbie on the short Relax, Breathe and Birth course at Caversham Children’s Centre. Such a relaxing couple of hours for both me and my husband. Left feeling really positive and excited about forthcoming birth 🙂
I just wanted to put a quick review on here from an expectant father’s perspective. Prior to our first Hypnobirthing session my wife was very nervous regarding pregnancy and in particular the birthing process. I was apprehensive for her and hoped the course could help her and us. Being of a medical occupation I must admit, and did, that I was slightly sceptical about the hypnobirthing course.
However, having finished our final session yesterday I am a complete convert and will recommend it to all my friends and family. The catalyst for this was Deborah. Her calm and confident demeanour gave us both immediate reassurance. We never felt awkward asking the simple/stupid questions and always got insightful answers. The break-time tea and snacks also help too!!
The course material is great and easy to understand. There is still plenty of the medical information but it’s focus is on the positive aspects rather than the negatives. The relaxation techniques were great and can be used in all other situations we/you may find yourself in.
As a father-to-be I learnt many tips and techniques which will enable me to help out and feel a part of the big day. I would highly recommend it to all fathers-to-be.
I leave the program delighted with the positive changes I’ve seen in my wife, her increased confidence and positivity. We now feel in control of the process and are so excited to welcome our new addition into the family.
I was so nervous about pregnancy as well as birth, due to an extreme medical phobia. However, since completing our course at Riverside Hypnobirthing with Deborah I have managed to remain calm throughout my pregnancy and I am excited to meet our baby at the end. I have learnt that birth is a natural process not something that I need to fear. My mind set has totally shifted and I now focus on the positives. I have really enjoyed the course; especially all the relaxing mp3’s. Both of us are now excited to meeting our little person in a few months time.

Doing the hypnobirth
ing antenatal classes was one of the best decisions I have made regarding my pregnancy. I was little short of terrified at the thought of giving birth before I did the course, but my fears have now been alleviated and I am really looking forward to it! Debbie is a wonderful teacher – informativ e, passionate , considerat e and funny. My husband and I never felt uncomforta ble or embarrasse d around her and she put us completely at ease. You learn everything you need to know about pregnancy and birth – all done in a positive way. Debbie has equipped me with all the relaxation tools needed to help me approach my birth calmly and confidentl y, and I have really enjoyed practising the techniques each day. I would, without question, recommend Riverside Hybnobirth ing for anyone who is looking for a positive and informativ e antenatal class, and one that sees birth as the amazing and natural phenomena it is.
‘As a midwife I have had the privilege of witnessing many trauma-free deliveries using hypnobirthing. I have seen the strength it gives women to birth their babies without the need for intervention or pain relief, and how attending hypnobirthing classes during pregnancy can alleviate fear of giving birth. Birthing does not need to evoke stress and anguish – I am always overwhelmed by the way a hypnobirthing mum is in total control of her labour and enables her baby to have a beautiful, calm entrance into the world. I’ve been fortunate enough to know Deborah for many years, and I believe that she is the perfect person to teach new mothers, or mothers who have had difficulties with previous births, how to use hypnobirthing for a tranquil birth experience. Her naturally calm and friendly nature lends itself perfectly to the hypnobirthing ethos. She empowers women to achieve the natural birth they’re capable of, and her personality and teaching style makes the process informative and fun. I’m thrilled that having achieved her own amazing homebirth using hypnobirthing, Deborah is now using her experience and skills to teach others. With her help, women can achieve the calm, controlled and special birth experience they rightfully deserve.’
