Hypnobirthing is about becoming an expert in relaxation
Let’s face it, the word ‘hypnobirthing’ doesn’t give much away. Unless you’ve heard about it from a friend, done some reading, or have an interest in mindfulness and meditation – you might think that it sounds weird or involves pendulums. It doesn’t. Hypnobirthing is about you and your birth partner becoming experts in relaxation and building confidence. So you feel excited about birth instead of scared.
Hypnobirthing means using self-hypnosis techniques to relax
Like day-dreaming, visualisation, massage, mindfulness and meditation. Hypnosis itself is like the guided meditations at the end of a yoga class.
Hypnobirthing removes fear and builds confidence in your body’s ability to give birth
Our antenatal classes use the Wise Hippo Birthing Programme which focuses on choice and having the right birth for you and your baby on the day. They explain the birthing process and why feeling relaxed and safe is so important. Did you know that fear and the release of adrenaline actually makes labour slow or stall? They explain the hormones needed to make your uterus work and how to produce those hormones and lower the production of adrenaline.
Hypnobirthing teaches you and your birth partner practical tools
They teach you breathing and relaxation techniques to help you cope with labour and birth. They teach you ways to distract your mind and promote comfort in your body. They teach you tools for life, which help you to relax and sleep better during your pregnancy, focus on the positive and cope with everyday stress.
Hypnobirthing enables you to feel informed and confident about labour
They make you aware of your antenatal and birthing options. They empower you to have the right birth for you and your baby on the day. They allow your birth partner to take on an active role in supporting you and becoming the protector of your birthing environment. They enable you to write a birth plan you are happy with so that you feel prepared and in control.
